Synopsis

Away from the glitter of the main G20 event in Delhi, the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group met in Varanasi to push the climate finance agenda. While the main aim of the group is to help scale up private and public sustainable finance, experts say there needs to be more clarity on various aspects.

The glitz, the gleam, the VIP movement, the traffic restrictions, the hectic negotiations, and some noteworthy declarations – for New Delhi, the G20 summit was a project that went according to plan. But even though the meetings of the world leaders ended on September 10, nearly 900km away in Varanasi, a bunch of delegates were quietly working on the climate finance front. The holy city played host to the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group
