    In a thrilling showdown at the Asian Games, the Indian table tennis duo of Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee displayed remarkable prowess, ultimately securing a hard-fought bronze medal in the women's doubles. Their journey ended in a closely-contested semifinal clash against South Korea, with the Indian pair narrowly losing 3-4 in a match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
    Sutirtha and Ayhika demonstrated exceptional resilience after initially trailing 2-3 in sets, managing to level the score. However, their Korean opponents, Sugyong Pak and Suyog Cha, showcased their prowess in the decisive seventh set, emerging victorious with a scoreline of 7-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 5-11, 11-2, in a fiercely fought battle that lasted 60 minutes.
    The intense match concluded when Sutirtha's forehand shot unfortunately met the net, sealing the fate of the contest.
    Notably, Sutirtha and Ayhika had earlier caused a major upset in the quarterfinals by defeating the reigning world champions, the Chinese pair of Chen Meng and Yidi Wang.

    Indian archers shine at Asian Games 2023

    Indian archers have made their mark at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou, reaching the quarterfinal stage in both the compound and recurve categories. The women's recurve archery team has also secured their place in the final eight. In the men's compound archery, the Indian team, comprising Ojas Deotale, Abhishek Verma, and Prathamesh Jawkar, secured a closely contested victory against Singapore in the pre-quarters, with a score of 235-219 across four ends. They will now face Bhutan in the quarterfinals on October 5.The women's compound archery team received a pre-quarters bye and is set to compete against Hong Kong in the quarterfinals on Thursday.Meanwhile, the men's recurve team, featuring Atanu Das, Dhiraj Bommadevara, and Tushar Shelke, delivered a dominant performance, securing a 6-0 win over Hong Kong in the pre-quarters with scores of 58-47, 57-49, and 57-55.The women's recurve archery team, consisting of Ankita Bhakkat, Bhajan Kaur, and Simarjeet Kaur, secured a 5-1 victory over Thailand in the pre-quarters.Looking ahead, the quarterfinals for the recurve teams are scheduled for October 6, with India set to compete against Mongolia in the men's category and Japan in the women's category.In mixed teams action, India's recurve and compound archery teams have also reached the quarterfinals.     Das-Ankita fight back to oust Malaysia; Indian archers make quarters in four events

    The Indian recurve mixed pair archery duo of Atanu Das and Ankita Bhakat showed tenacity to defeat Malayasia in a three-setter and sail into quarterfinals at the Asian Games here on Monday.

    Indian archers stormed into last-eight in three team events -- recurve mixed, compound mixed, compound men's team -- when the elimination round got underway at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre here.

    As of now, India are in medal contention in four events with the top-seeded women's team compound archers getting a bye into the quarters.

    Fifth seeded Indian duo of Das and Ankita rallied to beat Malaysian team of Syaqiera Binti Mashayikh, Muhamad Zarif Syahir Bin Zolkepeli 6-2 (39-38, 37-36, 39-33).

    The Malaysia duo enjoyed a 2-0 lead with three 10s including one X in the first set.

    But the experienced Indian duo bounced back with two 10s and went on to level as the Malaysians crumbled under pressure.

    The Malaysians hit the red-ring (8) once and went on to lose the second by a slender one-point margin.

    Panghal seeks new start for Indian wrestling

    Indian wrestler Antim Panghal begins her campaign for a medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou this week hoping it will mark a fresh start for a sport mired in a sexual harassment scandal back home.

    "I hope to put the controversies behind me and win a gold for my country," the 19-year-old told AFP before leaving for Hangzhou.

    Two weeks ago she beat the world champion and a two-time European champion on her way to bronze at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade.

    India finish last in equestrian eventing jumping team and individual final at Asian Games

    Indian riders had a disappointing time in the equestrian team and individual jumping final as they lost out on the medal race to finish at the last position at the Asian Games here on Monday.

    With total penalties of 1077.20 — far greater than any of the competitors in the discipline — the Indian team finished at the fifth and the last spot in the discipline as China claimed the gold medal with total penalties of 86.80.

    Japan took the silver with 92.70, while Thailand claimed the bronze medal with 93.90.

    Indian men's, women's teams bag bronze in roller skating

    Indian roller skaters clinched two bronze medals in men's and women's 3000m team relay events to match their best ever performance at the Asian Games here on Monday.

    The women's team of Sanjana Bathula, Karthika Jagadeeswaran, Heeral Sadhu and Aarathy Kasturi Raj opened India's account on the ninth day of competitions, finishing with a timing of 4:34.861s.

    The Indian quartet finished behind gold medallists Chinese Taipei (4:19.447) and South Korea (4:21.146).

    Aryanpal Singh Ghuman, Anandkumar Velkumar, Siddhant Kamble and Vikram Ingale then sealed a second bronze with a timing of 4:10.128 in men's team relay.

    PM Modi praises Avinash Sable for historic gold at Asian Games

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi showered accolades on track and field athlete Avinash Sable after he clinched a gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase in the Asian Games on Sunday.

    Sable, who had previously made history as India's first medallist in the 3000m steeplechase at the Commonwealth Games, repeated his feat by becoming India's inaugural medallist in the same discipline at the Asian Games.

    He also surpassed the previous record of 8:22.79, held by Iran's Keyhani Hossein for the past five years, by clocking an impressive 8:19.50s. Sable's efforts also brought India's first gold in athletics in the 19th Asian Games.

    PM Modi took to X, formerly known as Twitter to congratulate the Indian athlete and wrote, "An outstanding champion makes India proud again! A fantastic Gold by the unstoppable @avinash3000m in the Men's 3000m Steeplechase Event. I congratulate him for the success. Best wishes for his endeavours ahead."

    Indian shooting contingent receives rousing welcome in Delhi after successful Asian Games campaign

    Several members of the Indian shooting contingent returned to Delhi on Sunday receiving a grand welcome following their successful campaign at the ongoing 19th Asian Games.

    As the players walked out of the terminal, a crowd of enthusiastic fans who had gathered outside the airport greeted them with garlands. Numerous supporters and families of Indian shooting athletes had eagerly awaited their arrival at the airport.

    Indian trap shooters made it a spectacular last day of shooting contests in Hangzhou, with the men's team winning gold and Kynan Chenai collecting bronze after the women won team silver at the Asian Games.

    With three medals in trap on the final day of competition, Indian shooters will take home an incredible 22 medals — seven gold, nine silver, and six bronze — their biggest haul in the continental extravaganza. It was India’s best showing in shooting at the continental showpiece with seven gold, nine silver and six bronze medals.
