Synopsis

Last week, ET Prime travelled to the Kerala port town and put an ear to the waves. As the familiar story of development vs. livelihood plays out in a different theatre, all eyes are on the future course of the port project.

Jasmal Victor, 75, a resident of Kochuthoppu in Vizhinjam, Kerala, often walks along the seashore to see the skeletal remains of her son’s two-storeyed house which was washed away by gigantic tides last year. While the bright yellow-blue paint is still intact on the outer walls of the structure, for Victor, the sight is reminiscent of her own three-bedroom house which was claimed by the Arabian Sea during a high tide three years ago.
