    2020 NE Delhi riots: Court orders framing of charges against two accused
    A sessions court in New Delhi has ordered charges to be framed against two individuals accused in a case related to the 2020 northeast Delhi communal riots. The court criticized the Delhi Police for an "incomplete investigation" into three additional complaints that were combined with the case. The court referred the matter to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for an evaluation of the investigation. The court found evidence that the accused were part of a riotous mob that committed various offenses, including vandalism and arson.

    Further, in the alternative, a charge for the offence of abetment defined by Section 107 IPC and made punishable by Section 109 r/w 114 IPC in relation to the above-said offences is also directed to be framed against the accused as the accused being principal abettor was present at the scene of the crime, when the offences abetted by him were committed by the other unknown offenders.

    "The accused Sajjan Kumar is given benefit of doubt and acquitted for the offence" the judge said. Kumar was accused of various offences punishable under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race etc. (Section 153A), abetment of any offence (Section 109), murder (Section 302) and rioting (147).

    The counsel prayed for adjournment, claiming that he needed time to approach the authorities concerned for certified copies of certain documents related to the case. Tytler appeared before the court during the proceedings. The judge allowed the accused's plea after the CBI did not oppose the submissions.

    Ravishankar Prasad asked if it was fair and just for Raja to raise the issue of the European Parliament condemning India. He sought an apology. Prasad, a former Union minister, also asked if Raja was ready to apologise for the language he had used to speak about Sanatan Dharma.
