The ET Soonicorns Summit is a startup-tech initiative by the Economic Times to track the new frontiers of growth for the Indian startup ecosystem and power the rise of a more resilient startup-tech innovation economy with the potential to shape India’s Techade and help realize the country’s vision of harnessing tech and innovation to become a developed nation by 2047.
With the theme ‘Resilience. Reset. The Indian startup ecosystem maybe facing one of its toughest period yet, as the funding winter continues to intensify amidst a global macro slowdown, marked by bloated inflation levels, rising commodity costs, and rising geopolitical tensions. We examine the trends, challenges, and lessons for Indian startups in its wake, as well as the opportunity to build more resilient entrepreneurial leadership and businesses.
Reset
After a period of flush funding, skyrocketing valuations, and blitscaling, where startups and investors pursued growth at all costs, the Indian startup ecosystem has now been forced to recalibrate growth and valuation metrics, prioritising profitability, cash flow, and sound corporate governance and fundamentals. We track the impact and implications of this shift for the Indian startup ecosystem and foster real-world learnings for startups at different stages of their growth journey.

Experts believe this decade will be India's techade and that India’s digital economy, powered by startups and tech innovators, will play a significant role in boosting India's share in the global digital economy and help realize its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Digital Bharat 2.0 startups
About 50% of the total 92,000 DPIIT-registered startups are based in non-metros, emerging from Tier 2 and 3 markets and signalling the rise of Digital Bharat 2.0 startups and the democratization of entrepreneurship in India.
Unicorn Playbook
The unicorn frenzy of 2021, when India added 44 new unicorns, and in the first nine months of 2022, when India added another 23, has now given way to a more pragmatic and measured approach in evaluating companies, replacing vanity metrics with traditional measures of sound business fundamentals. We examine trends, decode their playbook and learnings.
